New ducks + small channel catfish

Been watching the mom duck sit for 25 days (at least). This AM a baby duck stuck his head out at 7:30AM - I tried to catch them in nest but it was 1.5 hours before they finally came out and started moving down the lake
BTW: catfish are still biting but all small ones on yoyo's on fishing pier (my next door neighbor loves all these 1 - 2 lb (typical) - cause they make a meal for her
BTW: Big bream fishing has been great - so I finally managed to bait the trotline last night with all big bream (got a big drum on trotline) - a big gar on yoyo (using a little bream) - but no big catfish in couple weeks (hurt my back so haven't been fishing as much- but got a couple bream that are HUGE - did not use them on trotline to feed turtles and gar)

Little lady next door doing fine

As I've mentioned when I catch small channel catfish - I MAKE the little lady next door help me clean them - then she has them for supper (or lunch)

This is just an update to let my friends know that I'm still catching plenty of small catfish for my neighbor - got two last night (largest about 1.5 to 2 lb) - and I already had one from previous night (about 1 lb) - so I let the small one from last night go (about 3/4 lb) - so she will have 4 fillet for her lunch today - as soon as I drag her out to clean them :)

She will have to do all the lifting cause I hurt my back about 3 days ago and that interfered with my trotline plans (and even my bream fishing but that's okay cause the water is falling faster ever day (after all the flood water started dropping in the river e.g. fishing in my area has been slower
Sidebar: Except for the crappie fishmen catching all my BIG crappie using yoyo's on the cypress trees in front of my house i.e. some people are not as lazy as me and they catch more fish (but my excuse - I'm retired - and these people are young and run yoyo's before and after work - too much trouble for lazy people like me :)

Gar - Cypress Trout bit the dust

I can't keep bait on my line cause - turtle are lining up to steal the bait and the Gar and Cypress trout get the bigger bait.

I got a cypress trout day before yesterday and then 2 gar yesterday - then this AM all bait was gone and two turtle heads showed up - I could tell they were waiting - hoping I was going to rebait - but I fooled them I'm taking day off from catching fish (bait) for the turtles - they are getting too thick in this area and too fat (they need to go on diet)

The guy that sometimes 'bait fishes' with me got another nice flathead on limb lines - the one from previous day was 33 lbs (Looked bigger) and then yesterday he got another nice one (looks to be 20 plus - will find out next time I see him)

The water is still high but failing - despite fact it's been pissing rain off and on all day

Oh I did get another small channel catfish on my yoyo's e.g. 2 in 2 days - so my neighbor is going to have her third fish dinner (when we clean it tomorrow - too wet today :(

My lucky bream = big flathead

Yesterday when I had 'tons of bream' - a guy that I fish with (for bait) came by and he didn't have any bait - he was going to check his limb lines - so I told him to take some of my bream for bait.

Some of his lines were still under water but he managed to bait 7 of them.

Well my 'lucky' bream got him a 35 - 40 lb flathead catfish (weight to be checked tomorrow) on his limb lines. BTW: Earlier he got a 30 lb with bream I helped him catch in my brush pile (so my bream are lucky for him :)

19 lb Catfishes :)

12 3/3 flathead + 6 1/4 Channel catfish = 19 lbs - but full of eggs so only got 6 lbs for freezer (and a little left over pieces for little lady next door - she loves the 'scraps' - makes a nice meal for her :)

Limit in bream e.g. 50 in 1.75 hours

Bream fishing was fast and fun (despite fact most were on small size e.g. trotline bait size) I walked out door at 5:15PM and carried last fish to fish basket (third trip) at 7:01PM e.g. 105 minutes and I got the limit (50 bream) - with the 'carrying time' - I was averaging a fish every 2 minutes (actually there were times when I got a fish as fast as I could taken one off and put on another wax worm (P.S. Wax worms are out 'performing' red worms and crickets this May - another fisherman made a believer out me when he got 2-3 fish to my one - earlier in year e.g. he was using wax worms and I was using red wormss right beside him (now I've started to raise wax worms (already raise red worms and crickets) - so I'll be ready for what the bream 'like' ;)

Another big flathead catfish = 16 lbs

Dang flood water kept my boat in the boat house for past 3 days - but today I finally got it out to check trotline - and I got a bath - cause there was a mad 16 lb flathead catfish on the line - just laying there until I got 2 hooks away - then it hit side of boat (twice) - cause I wasn't expect to have anything on line - the boat was facing wrong direction i.e. I was running line 'backwards' (because of wind direction)

This is a strange flathead - cause it's at least as long as the 23 lb I got earlier but only 16 lbs - and I checked weight 3 times and even checked batteries in my digital scales

I'll probably get exact length measurement tomorrow when I clean it - plus I may make another video since this is nice size - but I compared the head / mouth size to the head I kept from the 23 lb - and this one's head and mouth are slightly larger - really wondered how the weight is different by 7 lbs.

BTW: I got almost 10 lbs out of the 23 lb - which is pretty good for a flathead (usually 1/3 total weight is typical)


BTW: I've been tearing the bream up - last few days - they love this high water and you can see them playing in the 'green grass' that is underwater - and most are nice size - so the turtles and gar will be eating 'well' tonight (e.g. I rebaited trotline in mid afternoon)

Two more two pound channel catfish

I sometimes forget to post - got a 2 lb (1 lb 14oz) at 9:45PM - on yoyo - night before last

Then last night (or really at 3:30AM) found another two pounder on yoyo

Both with magic bait - both were for my neighbor - she is still making out like a bandit :)
